We got some questions about the business we are bootstrapping, and now you get to learn about it.
Brecht talks through our private Beta on-boarding process, then Scott announces what the new business is. Also, Brecht gives an update on DistressedPro, and shares information about his retargeting campaigns.

Hi Scott, Hi Brecht,
I love that you spilled the beans about the new business.
Re “someone could build it in a month”: That’s not really a problem. Say you launch the product and slowly bootstrap it. On launch day everyone will know about your new product. If Google then decides that they want to build the same thing, you face the same problem. The engineers at Google are all smarter than we are, they don’t build it on weekends/after work, they dedicate their best 40 hours/week to the task. And once they replicated your product, their marketing department will blow you out of the water.
At least in theory. In reality you have all the “unfair advantages” that you mentioned on the show. No one will take that from you & you’ll be doing just fine.
Re “Should we swear on the podcast?”:
Hell, F*ck, Yeah! That’s how you talk. I like the occasional swear word (as long as it doesn’t become a rap song…), IMHO that makes you human. There are people (e.g. Pat Flynn) who never swear, which is fine, because they are like that.
Keep it authentic!
Re “Business Cleavage”:
I feel like Brecht & I share the same mindset. I would never try to take advantage of someone based on gender. But at the same time, I can not change 4 billion years of evolution (or 6,000 years of divine intervention…) . Those years have made us into what we are. And if that leads to “boobs have a 2.5x conversion rate” (and I take bets that the improvement is there for both male & female users), who am I to argue with that?
tl;dr:
1. Talk about your product
2. Talk the way you are
3. Business cleavage is fine, because it works

One bonus tip for using Buffer:
You can now create the optimal schedule to increase engagement with your followers.
What they do, is they use the data from Followerwonk.com & set your schedule so that the tweets go out at the times when your followers are most likely to interact with it.
Step by step guide on how to set it up is here:

hey guys, Just wanted to say thanks for the podcast – love hearing about your adventures week to week. Hope the new customer onboarding is going well.
Also I was tears hearing about “business cleavage” – I’m now stealing that phrase, hope that’s ok! If you put a donate button on the website or email me – I’m happy to buy you both a beer, love the show.
syewell says
Yeah, I don’t think Brecht trademarked that one, feel free to use it! Thanks for the offer, a donate button is an interesting idea… Beer is always welcome of course…

Ha Ha…
– Seth Godin coined the term “tribes”
– Jason Roberts coined the term “luck surface area”
– Brecht Palombo coined the term “business cleavage”
Love it 😀

Hi guys, great episode. You had mentioned using Google Alerts to find content to share with your audience. You should check out ContentGems, which is an app my 2 co-founders and I have built. ContentGems is bootstrapped… and all 3 co-founders have kids! 🙂 It works very much like Google Alerts but gives you much more control and takes social signals into consideration. And it works with Buffer and HootSuite. Thanks for talking about bootstrapping with kids, not a lot of entrepreneurs talk about this dynamic. Parentpreneurs unite!

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the comment. We will check out contentgems, sounds like a useful content marketing tool! Good luck with the product, keep us posted on your progress!!
