Then Brecht discusses the opportunity available outside of typical traffic generation common knowledge and the importance of treating your customers with respect, and Scott talks about some recent technical challenges he has worked through.

Yeah I didn’t want to blast too hard and I am setup on Pingdom now but if I can dissuade one person from handling a shutdown in that manner then a little blasting is worth it.

Listening to your difficulties setting up a decent search solution, I really urge you to check out SolR. Its been around for years and was the back bone search platform for some of the largest websites on the internet. Makes searching & filtering a breeze. As a bootstrapped Dad would be happy to work with you getting it going if you need the help.
Cheers

Hi Glyn,
Thanks for the advice, I just spent 10 mins digging into SolR and how to integrate that with a Heroku app… Looks doable! From what I could pick it up it seems that advantages of SolR are mostly about performance and ability to perform text search across multiple columns. We aren’t suffering performance problems yet, but I will keep it in mind.
The challenge I was having in creating the search functionality was developing the search query based on which attributes a user had filled out in a form. It wasn’t really a problem with 4-5 attributes, but then we got more granular and it got messy… I think I have a good solution for now, if you’d like to check it out, drop me a line and we can screen share. Always great to get other input!
Thanks for the note,
Scott
